Fundraising events

The goodwill of the cricketing family towards Sicklinghall was in evidence in early February at a fundraising quiz night and bingo event organised and hosted by Spofforth CC. The event raised £500 and was also a good opportunity to get together with old friends and rivals.

The club’s fundraising gala dinner was then held on Saturday 18 February and was a great success. The Bramham Suite at Wetherby Racecourse was the perfect location for over 100 guests who enjoyed a wonderful four course meal followed by dancing to live music performed by ‘DMA’. The evening also included an auction with some amazing sporting lots, generously donated by Arla Foods, Sky Bet, York Racecourse, Leeds Rhinos, Lords Cricket and Waitrose. The event was sponsored by leading local Estate Agent Manning Stainton. Guests came from near and far including Yorkshire CC’s very own Jack Leaning, showing the continuing support from the wider cricketing community.

The audience also enjoyed the familiar voice of the BBC’s Dave Callaghan as MC and Auctioneer. The funds raised at the event move the club closer to the total needed to allow the facilities at Sicklinghall to be rebuilt. Chairman Zai Ali said “It was a great evening with a superb atmosphere and I’d like to thank everyone who played a part in its success”
