Sicklinghall Ladies take to the field

September 15, 2019

Our women’s team played in the only Women’s tournament organised in our area by the YCB this year, held at Harrogate CC. There were 10 teams in total and barring ourselves and one other team, all had played in similar tournaments before. A couple of teams had players who had played for the County teams.

Sicklinghall Ladies led by Emma did well, having had just 2 training sessions, they had a couple of really close games which they could have won had the lax umpiring not favoured the opposition. The team comprising of the two Emmas, Sally, Jules, Angie ,Gill, Zoe, Liz and our U11 star Hannah really enjoyed the day and hopefully this will encourage a few more ladies to join up.

Andy Wood visits Dubai to seek advice from a cricketing legend

March 23, 2018

In preparation for the upcoming season, Andy Wood took time out to mentally prepare in the sunny climes of Dubai and seek some wise words of advice from a cricketing legend.

Whilst enjoying dinner, Sir Vivian Richards was sat on an adjacent table to Andy. However, nerves or manners - call it what you will - got the better of him and no approach was made. "Fear not" cried the cricketing Gods, and in to the breach stepped Aayan Siddique. Siddy's advice could prove invaluable; let's hope he preached what he didn't (usually) practice.

We all wish Siddy well and look forward to seeing him back at Sicklinghall CC soon!

John Heath

January 31, 2018

Everyone at Sicklinghall CC was very saddened to learn of the recent passing of League President John Heath.

John was always a friendly and supportive face on the various committees that benefitted from his wisdom and experience over the years and more informally it was always fun and enlightening to “chew the fat” with him on many a visit to Bramhope. Our sympathies go out to his family.

The annual Sicklinghall CC presentation evening is taking place at the Scott's Arms on Friday, 9th March.

David Wood sadly passes away

June 19, 2017

It is with great sadness that we report David Wood passed away this morning, aged 61. Our thoughts go out to Liz, Phillipa, Sarah, Nikki and George, John and Margaret.

Dave was a stalwart for many years in the 2nd's and was a respected and feared opening bowler, with his run-up from near the boundary being legendary. Dave fought his illness to the end and died peacefully in St Michael's Hospice with his family around him.

The funeral took place at Stonefall crematorium, Harrogate, on Wednesday, 28th June.

Since the devastating fire in October, 2016 - which tore down the entire clubhouse, score box and outbuildings - great progress has been made in installing the temporary facilities for the 2017 season and planning for the future.

Over the past few months the pupils at the village school have been helping fundraise towards the rebuilding of the village cricket clubhouse after the devastating fire last October...

The goodwill of the cricketing family towards Sicklinghall was in evidence in February and March; 100 guests attended a Gala dinner and a fundraising quiz night and bingo event was organised and hosted by Spofforth CC...
