Ground update

14 May, 2017

Since the devastating fire in October, 2016 which tore down the entire clubhouse, scorebox and outbuildings, great progress has been made in both securing temporary facilities, and planning for the future.

Following the clean-up, the fire site was levelled and groundworks were completed so temporary buildings could be installed in early May; changing rooms, kitchen / canteen, toilet block and a scorebox (it even has a name on the door – ‘Ali’s scorebox’! They will be in place for the entirety of the 2017 season. Thank you to the Parish Council and the ECB, who showed their support through a grant to help meet the cost of the temporary buildings, and to all the individuals who were involved in the significant project to plan and install them.

Discussions have been held with Northern Powergrid and an electricity connection is now on order and will be in place soon. This will enhance the new buildings but also enable security gates to be fitted in the summer.

The first replacement machinery purchase was made in March with the acquisition of a ride-on mower. Sadly, this was in turn stolen from the remaining storage container after just two weeks. Another new mower has been purchased.

Work continues on the design of the new permanent facilities. Zai Ali is leading the charge to secure funding; the plans are both ambitious but realistic. More news to follow soon…
